Mateta BOOM!: the celebration that became a design
Every Legends in Thread design starts with a moment. This one started with a striker, a goal and a word that half of Selhurst Park now shouts on his behalf.
The celebration
If you've been to Selhurst Park in the last few seasons, you know the drill. Jean-Philippe Mateta scores, wheels away, and the whole ground goes BOOM. It isn't a choreographed thing. It's a big man, a big grin and a celebration that feels like it belongs to the crowd as much as the player. Palace fans adopted it fast, and now it's as much a part of the matchday soundtrack as Glad All Over.
That's what makes it worth stitching. Plenty of players score goals. Not many give you a word to shout.
From the terrace to the thread
When I started Legends in Thread, the brief I gave myself was simple: make the stuff I'd actually wear. Not a replica shirt, not a crest on a cheap tee, but something subtle that another Palace fan would clock across a pub and nod at.
The Mateta BOOM! design does exactly that. A clean outline of the celebration, embroidered small on the chest, with the word underneath. No club crest, no sponsor, nothing official. Just the moment. If you know, you know. If you don't, it's a nice hoodie.
It's embroidered rather than printed because a celebration like this deserves to last. Stitching sits in the fabric and stays sharp wash after wash, which matters when the hoodie is going to get worn to every home game until May.
Why it works
The best fan clothing is the stuff that starts a conversation. Wear this to a Palace game and someone will shout BOOM at you on the walk from Norwood Junction. Wear it anywhere else and only the right people will notice. That's the whole idea behind the brand: minimal designs, maximum meaning.

The design comes as an embroidered hoodie, a cotton tee and a kids tee for the next generation of Eagles. Everything is made to order in the UK, so allow a week or so before it lands.
You'll find the rest of the Mateta range and the full Crystal Palace collection on the site.
